Heatwave: Vortex, Light and Decay

The poster for the theatrical production Heatwave draws inspiration from the intensity and contrasts of the Greek summer, as reflected in the play. At the heart of the visual composition is a close-up of a female figure, symbolizing both the seductive allure and the raw reality of Greek life.

The design seeks to visually capture the effect of extreme heat and the swirling intensity of a summer heatwave. Distorted pixels, reminiscent of television interference and visual deterioration, merge with the impression of a photograph burned by the sun — a metaphor for the power of light and the decay caused by time and overexposure.

At the same time, these visual effects evoke the streaks and flashes of light one experiences when looking directly at the sun, creating an almost uncomfortable sensation of heat, glare and blurred vision.

The result is an atmosphere of decadence and nostalgia, highlighting the contradictory nature of the Greek summer: decay and pleasure, rawness and the search for meaning.

The image becomes a commentary on our cultural and emotional heritage, bringing together voyeurism, eroticism and the loneliness of the play’s characters.

A poster that burns like the Mediterranean sun, designed to captivate the viewer and transport them into the suffocating yet irresistible universe of Heatwave.
