The protagonists of this short-story collection are people one might encounter in an Athenian neighborhood or a Parisian quartier, glimpsed through a window overlooking neighboring buildings. Each character becomes involved in an everyday story—both insignificant and meaningful—in which the cities themselves play a central or connective role.
The book unfolds as a mosaic assembled piece by piece through music, which acts as the linking thread between the narratives, ultimately forming a unity of moments between Athens and Paris, between people searching for a place to stand and a time in which to move.
The cover was designed as an abstract face: the eye is formed by the map of Paris—the iris itself—while two linear elements suggest streets. The composition of the typography allows the author’s name to subtly construct the shape of a nose, collectively completing the implied outline of the face.
